Today was great. Woke up, walked to work, ate an apple, arrived at work, learned to open the store, organized the storage room, froze all day, got lunch from a cute place called Espresso Love, had a wonderful sandwich, talked to Ednon and Juno, went back to work, finished work, went to Shirt Tales to buy a Nalgene bottle, went to the beach with John and Cassie. -- John co-owns a store called Backwater. It's kinda like Buffalo Peak; they sell Patagonia and The North Face and things of that nature. Cassie works at Shirt Tales, which sells Patagonia, Life is Good, and things that Buffalo Peak would sell as well. I've only met them a few times but they invited me to go to the beach with them. Everyone here is extremely nice and friendly. It is such a SMALL world/town here. You see the same people everyday, yet meet new people everyday. I'm so glad I'm here before their high season, summer, really starts because I'm getting the chance to know the locals, workers, etc. And all of the retail people in Edgartown know each other so I'm meeting so many people through work and just walking around town. SO we went to a beach called South Beach and you can drive on the beach. Before you do, you just have to deflate your tires below 20 psi. (right now it's free to drive to the drive on the beach, but starting starting memorial weekend, this Friday, it' $30 a day, or $100 for a summer pass) So we dove out to the very tip of the beach, literally to the tip of the island. The point we drove to used to be connected (by sand) to Chappaquiddick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chappaquiddick_Island >>>check it out
The sand that used to connect the two island was washed away 4 or 5 years ago by a storm, and ever since, the sand "bridge" has been growing back. The current is extremely strong here, so the waves are crazy choppy which pushes the sand, making a new sand bridge, so it's really cool.
A whale died this past week and washed ashore, and we saw it's remains--Ya'll... it was HUGE... We really just saw the gigantic skeleton, but all of the blubber was around it and the water kept knocking it up against the skeleton.. it was so weird and really cool. So that was really fun today, except that it was so cold once the sun went down--54º !!! whoooo weeeee... little Mississippi girl ain't quite used to that for her summer..
"what a great place to come to escape mississippi's muggy southern summer." how dare you..."except that it was s cold once the sun went down--54.!!! whoooo weeeee... little mississippi girl ain't used to that for summer" ahhh payback
