The Past Few Weeks

Sorry there hasn’t been an update lately! (mary gwen J )   Now I am trying to think back to a few weeks ago…  My favorite news update is that I saw Meg Ryan at Espresso Love.  I go there pretty much everyday, and when I walked in I could not believe who was standing in line right in front of me: Meg and her daughter Daisy.  I hear she doesn’t like anyone talking to her, but I was speechless anyway.  My favorite movie is You’ve Got Mail, and I watch it all the time so it was so weird to see her in person!  Ah! I just love her..

We’ve had quite a few visitors in the house so it’s just been crazy busy around here.  Mary Duffy, Liz’s sister, was here for a while.  She came in town or Liz’s birthday, which was really fun.  Mary decorated the house SO so cute and fun.  I came home from work to a party at our house. The next night we celebrated her birthday at Atria (of course), and they had printed Happy Birthday, Liz on the menus!  Everyone at Atria is so great.  We always say we’re going to take a break from it for 2 weeks, but that never seems to actually happen…  J

One of Liz’s friends who lived with her last year on the island was here for about 2 weeks—she left yesterday; her name is Kelsey, and she lives in LA now.  So that was fun.  And then Allison, my sweet sister, came for about 6 days, which was SO fun. J  It was so verry good to see her!  I hadn’t actually spent time with her since Christmas so it was wonderful hanging out with her.  I think she really liked the island, too!  We did most of the things my mom and I did, except for bike in Chappy. Poor Allison was suppose to get her on a Wednesday around 6 or 7, but INSTEAD there were storms (of course) and her flight got delayed, which delayed the buses, ferry, etc.  SO I ended up picking her up at the 10:40 ferry in Vineyard Haven.  She was soo exhausted.. We talked and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked for about 120 hrs probably.  We came home and I surprised her with my now famous Rainbow Cake.  She had sent me the recipe about a year ago, and I had yet to make SO I finally made it and it turned out perfectly!!http://www.omnomicon.com/rainbowcake   <<  Then I convinced her to meet Liz and Kelsey at The Wharf, because I wanted her to go ahead and meet people before the town was totally packed for the July 4th weekend.  AND she liked the Wharf of course.  It was fun—there was a good band, she met a lot of people, and she stood up for her Bama Tide against some Tennessean.  After about 30 min we realized how tired we both were, so we headed home.  We had planned to sleep in the basement for the week.  After one night, we were basement sleeping no more!!  It didn’t quite meet our sleeping conditions…

The whole week I had to work, work, work, but Nancy, my manager is so sweet to be as lenient as she is..  The next day I worked, but on my lunch break I was able to meet Alli at Among the Flowers, my other favorite place to go! – best omelets ever, and toast, too.. it’s just so quaint, outside, and among some flowers.  After eating a delicious brunch/lunch there, I had to head back to work.  Afterwards though I met up with her and we got some delicious ice cream from Scoops, walked around, and shopped a bit around Edgartown.   That night we went to my other favorite restaurant called Atlanic …http://www.atlanticmv.com/.   It was a wonderful, wonderful dinner!  Alli and I sat outside on the deck, which overlooks the harbor.  It couldn’t have been more perfect. A great band was playing so we just took our precious time and ended up sitting there for about 2 ½ hours just talking and enjoying our time, food and the music. Also, we ordered truffle fries which-- YAY, she loved! (hard not to..) J  The next morning Sweet Nancy let us borrow her car to drive up island.  So Alli and I drove up through Aquinnah, Chilmark, Gayhead, Menemsha VH, OB, and back to Etown.  We saw the Cliffs in Gayhead which were beautiful, but unfortunately it was super foggy!  Then about 5 min later the fog lifted, then came back again—ha the weather is absolutely crazy…  From there we went back through Chilmark so we stopped by Chilmark Chocolates, which is oh so amazingly good.  Yum…

Then we went to Menemsha Beach where we got  delicious lobster rolls from a place on the dock called Larsens—I hear they have the best; it’s the only one I’ve had but, yum was it good!  We got 2 rolls  and lobster bisque, and we just sat on the beach and ate our lunch.  (and as you can tell, the weather has gotten a LITLLE bit better!! So sunshine FINALLY)  :)

Then we traveled to Chilmark Pottery where we purchased some beautiful pottery.  I wish everyone could have a piece! (and of the chocolate, too)   From there we drove to West Chop in Vineyard Haven and saw another lighthouse. Alli loooooovvvvvves those lighthouses! J  Then I had to race back home so I could get to work by 2:30!

The next day was the 4th of July!  I had to work 930-530 though.. Sweet Nancy insisted that I take Alli to the Farmer’s Market that morning though so she let me come in a little later..  I attempted to make it to work on time so I made us get to the market at around 815, but oh wait, the market opened at 9.  Ha! So much for that..  So we were in Aquinnah  at this point.. As we waited for the market to open we walked down to the general store.  The general store held things that took us back to our childhood days, so we spent the net 45 minutes reminiscing about the old candy we used to eat, the games we used to play, and what reminded us of mom and dad.  Haha so that was fun…  Then we walked back toward the farmer’s market.  I absolutely love it.. They have freshly picked fruits and flowers and locally grown greens, handmade and organic soaps and body washes, handmade sweaters, homemade jams, jellies, salsas, olive oils, fresh-squeezed lemonade, orange juice, and limeade etc.!  Oh so much to choose from!  And all of it is so fresh and delish.  There are a few Alpaca farms on the island, and the market had 2 alpacas there! They were so so cute, too, and made the funniest little noises. http://www.rivermistalpacas.com.au/images/alpaca_image1f.jpg
